Cal Ripken Central Youth Baseball, Wahkiakum Youth Baseball Merge Leagues

Released on = February 6, 2007, 1:45 pm

Press Release Author = Blake J. Peacock, Director of Communications

Industry = Non Profit

Press Release Summary = Cal Ripken Central Youth Baseball announced today that
District Commissioner, Randy Green, and the State Commissioner, Bill Daniels, along
with National Cal Ripken headquarters, have approved the change in the existing
boundary lines that will now include Wahkiakum County into Central’s geography. The
change in the boundary line will increase participation at Central and will provide
increased awareness and opportunities for families and their children to participate
in youth baseball.

Press Release Body = “Central Youth Baseball could not be more pleased to make this
announcement and we look forward to Wahkiakum’s participation and involvement in
directing and enriching all of our children’s lives. Central will be stronger
financially, stronger in numbers, and stronger in volunteers as a result of this
forward thinking. The ball is now in our court to make this season a huge success”,
said Dan Gillihan, President of Cal Ripken Central Youth Baseball.
“Wahkiakum Youth Baseball’s Board of Directors unanimously voted to merge as one
baseball organization under Central to play Cal Ripken baseball. This agreement will
bring immediate financial benefits to Wahkiakum County and significantly strengthen
youth baseball in our community”, said Christopher Weiler, President of Wahkiakum
Youth Baseball. This decision will bring Longview teams to play games on our new
baseball fields, formalizes the process to select team rosters including mandatory
tryouts for 10-12 old children, and allows Wahkiakum kids to play and practice on
Cathlamet based teams. Wahkiakum parents can register for baseball in Longview and
in Cathlamet. Wahkiakum parents are encouraged to download registration information
from Central’s website www.centralyouthbaseball.com.
Cal Ripken Central Youth Baseball is a non-profit organization and has been serving
the community for over 50 years. Central Youth Baseball is located at Archie
Anderson Park, 21st and Alabama in Longview, Washington and provides youth baseball
to boys and girls from 5 years to 12 years of age.
Wahkiakum Youth Baseball is a non-profit organization and has been supported by
Wahkiakum volunteers for many years. Wahkiakum Youth Baseball batting cages and
fields are located behind Wahkiakum High School off State Route 4 in Cathlamet
Washington.
